Traditional bus seats are in fact NOT common in school bus conversions, but knowing we’d be transporting precious cargo–not just our little Cyclones, but potentially others as well–we wanted to have a handful of safe seats for the bus. Facebook Marketplace again came to the rescue. A man named Troy was looking to sell the seats he recently removed form his skoolie. They were taking up a lot of space in his garage and he wanted them gone FAST.
We agreed on a deal of $50 for the lot, including all of the hardware for installation and for the handicap tie downs that were installed in his bus. The quality is really great: a leather-looking vinyl with no rips or stains, hardware with little to no rust and the aforementioned seat belts, too. The trick was, we didn’t have a way to get the seats from Northfield, Minn. to our home or the farm.
DAY DATE!
Dave and I took the day off work, rented a conversion van from Home Depot and picked up the seats and a quick meal at Taco Bell. We’re really living our best married life, folks!
The van rental brought our all-in total for the seats to $120. Google searches for seats aren’t 100 percent reliable, but a few sources quoted between $800 and $1,000 per seat sets—so we feel confident we got a good deal. However, Troy’s garage-storage problem quickly became our problem. It would take two trips the farm caravan-style to get all 10 seats (five rows of two) to the farm.
