Game 2: Akron — bus arrival 8:15 a.m., kickoff 11 a.m.
We had lofty goals to leave for the game at 7 a.m., but getting eight people out of the door (even with the kids still in jammies) is no easy feat. We left around 7:15 and picked up a breakfast pizza from Casey’s en route.
I had (what I thought was) brilliantly per-ordered the pizza for pickup and even called ahead to ensure it would be ready to go. Unfortunately, they still hadn’t put it in the oven when we arrived so we were in a bit of a stalling pattern while we waited for 10 minutes for the pizza to bake and packed the coolers with ice for the day.

Breakfast
We munched on pizza and cinnamon rolls Sarah baked up the night before. It was chilly enough we had a few Bloody Marys and jerky sticks to fill up before the game. I still can’t get over my aunt passing out shots of Goldschläger like communion wine at the tailgate!

Fiesta Ranch Smoked Wings
The kids had some food in the game and we had a few things planned for the tailgate after the game as we waited for the lot to clear out. Dave pre-smoked around 50 wings on Thursday (benefits of working from home!) and we simply warmed/crisped them up on the grill. My favorite rub is a dry packet of Hidden Valley Fiesta Ranch Dips Mix before they get smoked. Dave says a ratio of “till it looks right” is the way to go. I’ll try to measure for next time. These wings will have a repeat appearance!
My brother Eric and his friends had no trouble walking away with fistfuls of these as they said good bye. Love you too, bro!
