For homecoming we finally, finally got to park in G7! Can you believe it?! We got a spot along the fence with a lot of room to spread out and it was so much fun! The day started a bit chilly, but warmed into a perfect fall day. To keep the kids a bit more entertained for tailgating, I brought an inflatable body suit that was originally purchased as a stunt for a work event. It was a hit to say the least and the kids did a great job of taking turns.
Also, being a bit of a later start, we carved out a bit of time to visit the Jr. Cyclone Club Cyclone Experience. We picked up L’s free T-shirt, let the kids get out some energy in the bounce house, spun the wheel for some free prizes and walked away with some pretty awesome airbrushed tattoos.
I almost forgot it was homecoming until we got to the gates to see some of the Greek student art on the way in. This one was my favorite displays (I’m a sucker for Old Cy), but they were all really great!
The kids talked me into giant No. 1 foam fingers at the front gate. No regrets.
And, most importantly, it was a great game to watch. The defense held Texas Tech’s offensive line and we led most of the game. At a key moment in the third quarter, there was a time out and it was oddly quiet—no band playing or cheers happening. (In retrospect, maybe for a reason.) I stood up like a crazy person and took the “Get Loud” sign from earlier in the day to heart. Despite having lost some of my voice, I stood up solo and shouted “Cyclone” at the top of my lungs. It took two awkward times before my nearby fans joined in with the answer “Power.” After a few rounds, the student section picked up the front half of the echo chant, and went a few rounds back and forth—Cyclone Power—before game play started again. I may have been a bit crazy but man was it a fun game!
